This is a grape de-stemmer made by Jacob Brodbeck.  He made wine from grapes he gathered on his place.  Perhaps he purchased some from neighbors as well.  Once bottled he delivered to many of the saloons in Fredericksburg and San Antonio.  The device was restored by a great grandson of Jacob and Christine, Sherman Brodbeck.

Detail showing the top where the grape-laden stems were rubbed back and forth to remove the grapes.  Notice that each rail has an individually shaped notch to fasten to. The grapes then fell below where the handmade pestle was used to crush them.  The pestle still has purplish stains from the local grapes.
