Johann Georg Brodbeck

In 1826 Johann Georg Brodbeck was born on March 31st in Plattenhardt, a town in the district called Stuttgart in what was the Kingdom of Württemberg. He was the youngest surviving son of Joachim and Elizabethe Roos Brodbeck. His Grandfather Roos was a stone mason in the nearby town of Steinenbronn. George was able to utilize that skill learned from his grandfather here in his new home of Texas. He worked on many homes in San Antonio and constructed the jail and rock wall surrounding Fort Inge in Uvalde, Texas. George served with the Texas Rangers for a time from 1852-1854, and quite likely throughout the American Civil War.

After living a long, interesting life, he died at the age of 70 and was buried on his brother Jacob's homestead in 1897. In August of 2015 a Texas Rangers memorial cross was placed at George's grave site.
